When should I cut the grass?

Ideally your lawn should be kept 2.5 to 3 inches (6-8 cm) long. During hot and dry periods your mowing height should be increased. Your lawn should be mowed frequently so only 1/3 of the total grass blade is removed.

How much water should I give my lawn?

Your lawn only needs 1 to 1-1/2" (3-4cm) of water a week. Early morning is the best time to water your lawn so that most of the water penetrates the soil and the least amount of evaporation occurs.

How can I reduce the brown/yellow spots caused by my dog's urine?

By adding water to the lawn immediately after the dog has been on it. This will help to reduce the chance of yellowing as the urine is diluted and the grass blades are washed off.

Is there such thing as a right shovel for me?

Be sure that the shovel has a curved handle so that it will help keep your back straight. Shovel length has to be appropriate. Correct length is achieved when knees are slightly bent, back is flexed 10 degrees or less. A plastic blade is recommended as it is lighter and put less strain on the spine.

How much time do I have to shovel my sidewalks?

Snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of a snowfall or ice forming. The responsibility for this cleanup lies with the owner or resident of the adjacent property, be it a business or residential tenant. There is strict liability should any injuries or damages be incurred as a result of an unsafe sidewalk. If clearing is not finished within the allotted time, the owner/occupant of the property could be fined and the City may complete the work at the owner/occupier's expense.
